Cosplay Makeup : Female vs. Male Makeup Part 1

Cosplay Makeup : Female vs. Male Makeup

Is makeup really important in Cosplay? Well.. in my opinion I think it's great once in a while to wear some. Makeup can always give you and extra "Boost" in photos and can always enhance your facial features. Such as the highpoints of your face or maybe the shape of it.Anime characters mostly have features we, normal people, don't really have. Such as maybe flawless skin or really big eyes like theirs. True, there are MAJOR ways to obtain such features but makeup is a choice. And even sometimes you'll be surprised at yourself on how much of a difference it makes in a photo. If youre probably new to cosplay, then here's a little amateur "guide" to makeup; Male and Female c:

Part 1 :Female Characters Makeup//

  Base/skin-

Obv. most female characters we see portrayed in Anime/Manga usually have these BIG eyes. Though we need to start from the base first: flawless skin. The easiest way to obtain this, is of course, foundation and powder. You should sometimes pick a foundation color a few shades lighter than your normal skin color to give you a bit of a "glow" to your face. Usually, after you apply your foundation, you should of course add a bit of loose powder to make the foundation to last longer.

   Eyeshadow/Eyeliner -

Next of course could be the eyes. You could never go wrong with a nutreal pallet eyeshadow. Choose any nutrual color of eyeshadow of your choice(Ex. light shimmering gold, or a matte light brown color) to add a bit of color/depth to your eyes*making them appear bigger*(also, its good to add some under the brow area for a more sharp feature). What another good idea is if your character sorta has a "color theme" to it (example- Miku's color is Blue) you could also add a bit of color to your eyes. What also really helps contribute to your eyeshape is eyeliner!~ Eyeliner helps define your eye at sometimes and can even change your eyeshape but extending it.

False Lashes-

Another tip on making your eyes appear bigger is false lashes. Now false Lashes come in a variety of shapes and styles now a days and might be hard to choose. The best choice to go for is medium thick lashes- Not too heavy and not to natural.-. As for applying them, heres a helpful video tutorial by klairedelysart on Youtube- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z7m6RnBSqM

Contouring / Highlights-

Ahhh~ Contouring and Highlights. They help your face loose a bit chubb chubb in photos xD For contouring, its best to use bronzer on the sides of your cheeks/ face at the temples. It helps make your face appear slimmer on photos. As for Hightlights, what I normally use is a light shimmering white eyeshadow on my noise forehead/ cheeks for a more perfect face/ yes, again it contributes to making your face slimmer.

THOUGH overall, there are many ways on going about with makeup for Cosplay, but I just dotted down the basic componets of it. For a video tutorial check out MangoSirene's video on makeup 101
on youtube. As for the Males, there shall be a seperate post about it so thanks for reading, and I hope this helped you on cosplay makeup for beginners!~
